St.John wort คือสมุนไพร ที่นำส่วนดอกและใบมาใช้ทำยาและอาหารเสริม ใช้กันแพร่หลายสำหรับการแก้โรคซึมเศร้า และอาการที่เกิดจากสภาวะการซึมเศร้า เช่น ความกังวล ปัญหาการนอนไม่หลับ มีหลักฐานทางวิทยาศาสตร์ที่เด่นชัดในเรื่องประสิทธิภาพการรักษาโรคซึมเศร้า
St.John wort ยังมีคุณสมบัติในการช่วยเรื่องใจสั่น อารมณ์แปรปรวน อาการจากช่วงหมดประจำเดือน และโรคอื่นอีกหลายชนิด เช่น ความเหนื่อยล้าผิดปกติ ช่วยบำบัดการเลิกสูบบุหรี ฯลฯ

ข้อระวัง
หากรับประทานยาอยู่ ควรปรึกษาแพทย์ก่อนรับประทาน St.John wort เพราะไม่ควรรับประทานพร้อมยาบางชนิด ได้แก่ ยาสำหรับโรคอัลไซเมอร์, ADHD, Meperidine (Demerol), Mephenytoin (Mesantoin), Nefazodone (Serzone), Nortriptyline (Pamelor), Paroxetine (Paxil), Pentazocine (Talwin), Phenobarbital (Luminal), Phenprocoumon, Phenytoin (Dilantin), Reserpine, Sedative medications (Barbiturates), Sertraline (Zoloft), Tacrolimus (Prograf, Protopic), Tramadol (Ultram), Warfarin (Coumadin)
